Lack of Energy

This is how I feel around 2-3pm

I’m pretty tired. Actually, I’m really tired. But today was different. It’s the kind of tired that when I sit down, I notice a tingling in my hands. This can’t be good.

In the morning as I sit at my desk, I can pretty much push through the fatigue. However, after lunch, I hit a crash and I want to pass out. But throughout the day,  I’ve been losing concentration, and I’ve been dipping into self-pity lately. Staying awake at work is becoming a daily battle. This is almost as bad as when I ran a political campaign last year. I feel like I’m getting enough sleep.

Feeling this, I thought I needed to switch things up. I decided to purge my tunes on my Mp3 player. I added a slew of new music and I added Pimsluer Japanese II to keep up my language skills while on those long runs.  Current music selections include Silent Alarm and the Magic Numbers.

On the commute to work today, I was dead tired…as usual. I’ve noticed it’s taking me about 45 to 60 minutes to roll out of bed when before it has taken me 10. Exiting my stop, I heard a song I heard a song which pepped me up quite nicely: O.P.P. by Naughty by Nature.

But it was short lived, I sat down at my desk and I put my head in my hands thanking God the office was getting early release for the long holiday.

You down with O.P.P.?

You down with O.P.P.?

Ultimately, I need to address this issue of constant exhaustion. It’s making me edgy, moody, and paranoid.  I feel like I’m getting plenty of sleep, but with just over a week till Black Bear, I’m worried that I won’t be rested and I’ll have a disappointing performance like last time.

    Dude,

I’ve been cruising various blogs for inspiration (I’m training for the NYC Marathon) your “tingling hands” comment popped out at me. . . and set off a deafening alarm!!

About 3 months ago I was at my office and suddenly felt TINGLING and pressure in both of my arms that would not go away. . . Long story short it was a medium-sized heart attack!

I know what you’re thinking, “I’m young, an athlete, eat right, train right”, blah, blah, blah. Well me too. Just had a good physical, NO family history, NO smoking, NO high cholesterol, NO blood pressure issues NO symptoms EXCEPT FATIGUE. Which I wrote off to increased training, full-time job, and just general day to day in NYC.

Angioplasty, 2 stents (in an 80% blocked artery!) and 3 days in the hospital have “fixed” me with 25% more blood pumping to my heart. All the docs say i will be better than before. . .eventually. no Marathon in 2009 for me, will go for 2010

I’m sure I’m just a freak and you are fine. . . but maybe check it out just in case. a “coronary calcium scan” perhaps?

so on that note. . . good luck in the Philly Tri. I’ll be watching your progress on your road to Kona!

Wow, thanks for the message. Doctors have commented that I have a large lung capacity and a large heart which is great for me, but I think I’ll take your advice when I go for a check up next week.
